The position of your KICKER Substation will affect the quality and amount of the
bass it reproduces. Experimentation will allow you to choose what sounds best in your
vehicle.
The ideal situation is to mount the Substation with the ported end about four inch-
es from the rear corner of your trunk or hatchback area. This will add the “boundary
loading effect”, which boosts bass output at the lower frequencies. See diagram 1.
After determining the best location for your Substation by trial fitting and listening,
find the best placement for the mounting brackets. Each bracket must be positioned
so that the rounded end protrudes from the cabinet by about 3/4 inch. These brack-
ets and screws will be used to attach the cabinet firmly to the vehicle. See diagram 2.
If the enclosed brackets are not applicable to your installation, some other means
must be utilized to secure the cabinet to the vehicle.
For optimum sound quality, the KSR100 should be used with some form of low pass
crossover. The best crossover is an electronic crossover used before a dedicated sub-
woofer amplifier. If it is necessary to use passive crossovers, a 6mH coil wired in series
with the Substation will help reduce unwanted out of band frequencies. When wiring
the substation to your amplifier, connect the positive output to the red input terminal
and connect the negative output to the black terminal. The KSR100 Substation pro-
vides a 4 Ohm load to the amplifier.
