Setting Up Your Switcher for Operation
The KD-CSW2x1 Automatic Switcher is easy to configure and operate. First, find a safe and
convenient location for the Switcher. Do not connect the external 5 Volt DC power supply to the
back of the Switcher until all your Video and Audio devices are interconnected to the KD-CSW2x1
with your Video and Audio devices.
1. Connecting A/V Equipment to your KD-CSW2x1 Switcher
Two video and audio input sources, “Input 1” and “Input 2”, are connected to the KD-CSW2x1
Switcher via standard RCA color-coded jacks. Virtually any scanning format can be used.
Each of the two input sources can consist of Component Video (Y,Pr,Pb), and Audio (analog L,R
or Digital PCM).
You can also switch the following video:
VGA (RGBHV) video (use the L&R audio connectors for H&V)
Composite Video (using the “Y” channel only)
S-Video inputs (using a two wire adapter connecting the “Y” channel for luminance and Pr for
chrominance)
All video should be 1 V p-p terminated into 75 ohms. Composite sync should be on the “Y” signal.
The analog audio inputs are high-impedance line-type inputs. The standard digital PCM audio is
on one RCA color-coded jack. Toslink Optical labeled “Digital Audio” on the rear panel is only active
when a digital PCM digital audio source is used on the coax input. If no Digital Audio source is
used on the coax input, there will be no output through the Toslink Optical Connection.
Connectors
In all, the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher has 18 colorcoded RCA
connectors. The Switcher Output and each of the two Input
connector groupings follow the same pattern of component
Video [Pr, Y, Pb] on the top connector row, and Audio [L
&R analog stereo audio, PCM digital audio] on the bottom
connector row. The KD-CSW2x1 also simultaneously
generates a Toslink Optical Audio output if a digital PCM
audio input source is used and selected.
Cable Lengths and Daisy Chaining Units
For proper signal integrity, input and output cable lengths should not exceed 50 feet. It is also
possible to “Daisy Chain” the inputs and output of the Switcher to other devices, including
additional Switchers. Be sure to terminate all runs into 75 Ohms at the end of the run, and keep the
total cable length for any given run under 50 feet.
Connect the Power Supply
Connect the external 5 Volt DC power supply to the back of the Switcher and into an appropriately
rated outlet (please see the specifications in this manual).

2. Switching Between Sources
Selecting between the “1” and “2” input sources can be automatic with the KD-CSW2x1. A
Manual Override pushbutton (labeled “Input Select”) is also provided on the front panel to defeat
the automatic switching feature. Both Audio and Video are switched together. It is important that
both input sources to be of the same format, such as two Component Video sources driving a
Component Video monitor.
Monitoring Your Input Selection
A front-panel pushbutton switch (labeled “Input Select”) is provided to select between “Automatic”
and “Manual Override” modes of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. When powered-up, the unit will always
start in the Automatic Mode. The user can then use the front-panel pushbutton switch to cycle
between: Input 1, Auto Mode, or Input 2. Simply depress the push-button switch repeatedly to cycle
amongst the modes. Front-panel LEDs indicate the status of your selection.
GREEN LED ON indicates Input 1 has been selected
YELLOW LED ON indicates Input 2 has been selected
RED LED ON indicates Automatic Mode has been selected (one of the other LEDs should also
be ON in this mode, as described below).
Auto Input Sensing Mode
To use the Auto Input Sensing Mode, simply power-up the Switcher, or cycle through with the front
Input Select push-button switch until the RED Auto LED on the front panel is illuminated. With the
Switcher in “Automatic Mode”, it will look for an active video signal (sync) on the “1” input. If the “1”
input has an active signal, then the “1” signal will be switched to the output of the KD-CSW2x1
Switcher, regardless of the activity on the Input “2”. If Input “1” does not have an active input signal,
then the Input “2” signal will be switched to the output of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. Note that in the
Automatic Mode, the RED LED will illuminate along with the input LED for the source automatically
selected by the Switcher, either GREEN for the “1” input or YELLOW for the “2” input. If the unit is in
the Automatic Mode and no signal is connected to the “1” input, then the unit will naturally default
to the “2” input and the RED and YELLOW LEDs will illuminate.
Manual Override Mode
The user can also select the input source (“1” or “2”) manually, thereby defeating the Auto-sense
feature of the KD-CSW2x1 Switcher. Simply use the Input Select front-panel pushbutton to cycle
between the “1” input (indicated by the GREEN LED) and the “2” input (indicated by the YELLOW
LED). Regardless of the presence of video signals at the input to the Switcher, the manually-
selected input will be switched to the output if the Automatic Mode is turned OFF (RED “AUTO” LED
on the front panel is not illuminated).

Audio Output
Under normal operating conditions, please depress and release the Input Select switch, and do
not keep the pushbutton depressed for longer than a few seconds. See the SPECIAL NOTICE
towards the end of this Operating Manual.
In the Automatic Sensing Mode, the KD-CSW2x1 Automatic Switcher LOOKS FOR AN ACTIVE
SYNC SIGNAL ON THE “1” CHANNEL INPUT.
