ELECTRICAL SAFETY
In the United Kingdom, the
ELECTRICITY AT WORK ACT 1989
requires all portable electrical
appliances, if used on business premises, to be tested by a qualified electrician, using a Portable Appliance
Tester (PAT), at least once a year. The
HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORK ACT 1974
makes owners of electrical
appliances responsible for the safe condition of the appliance and the safety of its operator. If in any doubt
about electrical safety, contact a qualified electrician.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) should be fitted in the mains electricity distribution board. If the
power supply is not protected by an RCCB, it is highly recommended that an RCD (Residual Current Device)
is used with all portable electrical products.

PERSONAL SAFETY
l
WARNING:
Wear complete eye protection
and protective clothing when working with
lead acid batteries.
l
Ensure there is another person within
hearing range of your voice, and close
enough to come to your aid, should a
problem arise when working near a
lead-acid battery.
l
Have plenty of fresh, soapy water nearby for
use if battery acids come into contact with
the skin, clothing or eyes. If this occurs,
wash immediately with soap and water.
l
Avoid touching your eyes while working with
a battery. Acid particles (corrosion) may get
into your eyes. If acid enters your eye,
immediately flood eye with running cold
water for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical
attention immediately.
l
Remove all personal metal items such as
rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches
when working with a lead-acid battery. A
lead-acid battery can produce a short circuit
current high enough to weld a ring to metal,
causing a severe burn.
l
Take care not to drop a metal tool or other
metal onto the battery. Metal may cause
sparking or short circuit to the battery or
another electrical devise. Sparking may
cause an explosion.
l
NEVER
smoke or allow a spark or flame in
the vicinity of the battery or engine.
Batteries generate explosive gases.
UNPACKING
It is recommended that you save the packaging material for future transportation of the Battery Charger in
the event of service or repair.
Packaging materials, especially bags, must be kept well away from babies and children.
NOTE: The charger recharges the battery in the following 3 stages:
l
STAGE 1: BULK/RAPID START CHARGE (20%-70% CHARGE)
Faster than conventional type chargers, even in freezing or high temperatures, the charger
delivers maximum charging amperage to “wake up” any 12V battery. When it reaches a
maximum safe predetermined voltage, the digital sensors automatically move into Stage 2 of the
charging process.
l
STAGE 2: ABSORPTION CHARGE (70%-90% CHARGE)
Maintains the charge at a constant safe voltage. During this voltage absorption regulation
charge the charging voltage remains constant, while the actual charging current is reduced to allow for
the maximum proper internal chemical energy transfer.
l
STAGE 3: TOP-OFF CHARGE (90% - 100% CHARGE - “FULL” IS ON)
Voltage is automatically maintained and reduced to a predetermined level while current is
adjusted for a safe, effective 100% charge (step-down regulation mode). Ideal for topping off batteries
that have been in storage. Automatic shut-off at 100% charge - you can trust this charger to never over
charge any battery, or cause pressure leaking of acid, even if it is left
unattended while charging in
hot summer temperatures.
DISCONNECTING:
1.
When charging is complete, switch off the mains supply and unplug at the mains.
2.
Remove the charging leads from the battery, removing the negative lead first.
3.
Inspect the electrolyte levels in each of the battery cells and top up if needed using distilled water only.
4.
Replace the filler caps, ensuring they are fully tightened or pushed home.
WARNING!
l
Any surplus fluid on the surface of the battery should be wiped off with extreme care
as it may be acidic.
MAINTENANCE
With only minimal maintenance, this battery charger will deliver years of dependable service.
Follow these simple steps to maintain the charger in optimum condition:
l
After each use, clean the battery charger and clamps.
l
Be sure to remove any battery fluid that will cause corrosion of the copper clamps.
l
Clean the outside case of the charger with a soft cloth and, if necessary, mild
soap solution.
l
Keep the charger cords loosely coiled during storage to prevent damage to the cords.
l
Do not use the charger if cords or clamps have been damaged in any way.
l
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, it’s service
agent or qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.
l
When not in use, disconnect from the mains supply and store the charger carefully in a
safe, dry, childproof place.
To assure product safety and reliability, repairs, maintenance and adjustment should be
performed by an qualified engineer, always using identical replacement parts.
