Listen carefully through the stethoscope as the cuff pressure drops for
the first audible occurrence of blood flow – this is the Systolic Pressure.

As the needle continues to fall, notice how the sound of the blood flow
changes. Each change represents the transition through the various
Korotkoff phases – there are five in total.

As the 4
th
Korotkoff sound tapers off and disappears, the moment the
sound of blood flowing becomes inaudible marks the Diastolic Pressure
and the transition into the 5
th
and final Korotkoff phase. The needle will
stop pulsing soon after.
14.
Release the rest of the air from the BPSim
™
device and remove from the
patient.
15.
If done, attach the power cord to the BPSim
™
cuff and store safely.
