IMPORTANT
: Always disconnect the instrument from the power outlet when
working with panels removed. Risk of electrocution!
1.
To check the integrity of the element ceramic connectors and terminals, do
the following:
1.1
Unplug instrument (Caution – risk of death by electrocution) and let the
heaters cool down completely.
1.2
Tilt the crucible heater towards the front (i.e. in pouring position). The
crucible heater element connectors are underneath the heater cell itself.
1.3
Visually inspect and verify that both terminal connectors are not overly
oxidized. If a faulty connector is found, replace this ceramic connector
immediately.
1.4
Tilt the crucible heater back to the upright position.
1.5
Now, check the mold heater element terminals, by first removing the
mold heating unit from the instrument. (Pull left, then gently upwards.)
1.6
Remove the thermocouple cover.
1.7
Locate the mold heater connector, on the side of the round mold heater
(under the thermocouple cover).
1.8
Visually inspect and verify that both terminal connectors are not overly
oxidized. If a faulty connector is found, replace this ceramic connector
immediately.
1.9
Using an appropriate tool, verify that all wire terminals of ceramic
connectors are well tightened, both on the element side and the wire
side. Do not over-torque the screws. Simply verify that they are not
loosened.
Thermocouple
junction
IMPORTANT
: Always disconnect the instrument from the power outlet when
working with panels removed. Risk of electrocution!
IMPORTANT
: Do not touch the small metal tip of the thermocouple.
To run this inspection, instrument must be turned OFF, unplugged and completely
back to room temperature.
The thermocouple used in this instrument is made of platinum-platinum/rhodium
(type R) and is normally very durable. In particular, it is impervious to oxidation or
damage by heat; only a mechanical incident could damage the junction (i.e. the
tip) of the thermocouple.
