4.3 Stairs and Sidewalks
The Kartus wheelchair is not designed to go down stairs or sidewalks with a seated
passenger.
DO NOT use escalator to change floors with the wheelchair. This could result
in a serious injury.
4.4 Descending Slopes
Proper speed and direction control of the Kartus chair is vital while descending. In
order to ensure the safest possible descent, a light pressure on the brakes should be
applied by the person pushing the wheelchair.
NEVER leave an empty wheelchair on a slope.
DO NOT attempt to go up or down a slope with wet, icy or oily road surfaces
.
4.5 Transfer
All precautions must be taken to reduce transfer distance before transferring the
passenger.
1. Turn rear wheels parallel to the passenger being transferred.
2. Engage brake locks to prevent the wheelchair from moving.
3. Remove or detach leg guards.
4. Undergo transfer.
Note - Use a transfer board if possible

WARNING
It is not recommended to perform the transfer without assistance: it is
a difficult maneuver that requires good balance and skill. Be aware
that at some point during the transfer procedure, the seat will no
longer be directly underneath you
.
4.6 Lifting
Never lift the wheelchair by its steerable or moving parts. Use locked and secure parts
of the frame instead. Lifting the wheelchair by its moving parts may result in a serious
injury to the user or damage the Kartus wheelchair
.
