①
The attendant should hold the handle and tip the wheelchair backwards so
that the front casters lift off the ground. Refer to 12.4.5.

should hold a solid part of the front frame to steady the wheelchair in the front.
Lift or lower the chair one step at a time until you reach the landing.
Warning
⚫
Always use two assistants when negotiating stairs with
more than one step.
⚫
Don
’
t attempt to lift the wheelchair by any removable parts.
This may result in injury to the user and/or assistants or
damage to the wheelchair.
10.7 Negotiating ramps and slopes
Driving on ramps and slopes must always be performed with great care and
attention.
Warning
⚫
Always have an assistant behind the wheelchair when
approaching long slopes.
⚫
Never drive on slopes steeper than 7°. This might result in
uncontrollable behavior of the wheelchair.
Caution
⚫
Never make a turn on a slope due to the danger of tipping.
⚫
Avoid stopping on a slope because it may potentially cause
you to lose control of the chair. If you need to stop the
wheelchair on a slope, lock the wheels from the attendant
brakes or parking brakes to keep it stationary.
