Always be ready to brake, as the braking assistance
can switch off.
Factors which cause the limitation of the maximum
possible motor braking force include the condition
of the battery and the maximum possible current
consumption of the battery cells resulting from this.
If the braking forces/flows of current into the battery
were even higher, the lifetime of the battery would be
significantly reduced.
8.2 Thermal management
Overheating can damage the motor. The thermal manage-
ment ensures that the motor does not overheat. It is inte-
grated in the Xion motor and monitors the temperature
and input energy there. As the temperature increases, the
thermal management reduces the energy input and the
motor output decreases. When the motor cools down, the
thermal management increases the energy input and the
motor output increases. This regulation is infinitely vari-
able. If the temperature of the motor rises above the maxi-
mum permissible temperature for the motor due to ad-
verse conditions (steep incline, high gross weight, …), the
motor may interrupt the assistance for a short period.
Then the temperature symbol appears on the display. This
informs you that the motor must cool down to avoid being
damaged. After around 10 minutes, the motor can cut in
again.
In order to counteract the development of high
temperatures, you should use the lower assist modes
(Eco, Tour) and the assist levels 1 to 3 when riding
over longer distances. Furthermore, you can reduce
the build-up of heat by riding with higher pedalling
cadences.

The charge state of the battery must be no higher
than 90%. When the battery is fully charged,
energy recovery does not work. Instead, the fol-
lowing symbol is displayed:
8.1.2 Braking assistance
The braking assistance should make riding downhill more
comfortable and safer for you.
If braking assistance is activated, you will see the follow-
ing symbol on the display:
Braking assistance is activated if you have set it in the
menu and if various conditions have been fulfilled (see in-
formation area
Chapter 8.1.1 “Energy recovery (recupera-
). In addition, braking assistance is only activated
when you are not pedalling.
You can set a “limit speed” of up to 28 km/h. Braking
assistance holds you at this speed. The output limit of the
braking assistance is determined by the the gradient of
the route, the total weight of the vehicle and the battery
charge state.
If the hill is too steep or the gross weight of the bike is
too high, the braking assistance will switch itself off. The
“braking assistance” symbol will then disappear. If you
want to maintain this speed or reduce it, you must brake
using the brakes on your bike.
As soon as you begin to pedal, the braking assistance
deactivates automatically. It reactivates as soon as you
stop pedalling and are riding at a speed below the limit
speed set.
You can, of course, always use the brakes on the bike to
bring the speed of the vehicle below the limit speed again.
