Fuel System Basic Service and Maintenance
Frequency of water draining and element replacement is determined by the contamination
level of the fuel. The Racor Model 75/1000MAX is a dual filter system, which allows
one filter at a time for servicing,
even if the engine is running . The handle POINTER
always indicates which unit is ON. If the handle is in the DOWN position, both filters
are on-line.
To take one filter off-line for servicing while the engine is still running, select the filter to
stay on-line (by pointing the handle towards that filter), and then begin
servicing the
other filter.
Inspect the collection bowl
daily for water and contaminants.
To
drain water and contaminants from the fuel filter/water separator for each engine ,
you should do the following:
1. If the engine is ON, activate the Engine Room exhaust blower by turning ON the
circuit breaker labeled ‘ ENGINE ROOM EXHAUST FAN ’ on the 120/240V
AC Distribution Panel No. 1 located Port side in the Pilothouse.
2. Turn the filter selection handle to bring the filter to be serviced to off line (point
the handle to the on-line filter).
3. Place a suitable collection container under the filter to be serviced.
4. Open the self-venting drain at the bottom of the filter to evacuate water and any
other contaminants into the collection container.
5. Close the self-venting drain at the bottom of the filter.
6. Remove the lid and T-handle by hand.
7. Fill the unit with clean fuel and coat the lid seal with fuel as well.
8. Replace the lid and snugly tighten the T-handle by hand. HAND TIGHTEN
ONLY.
9. Turn the filter selection handle to bring the filter just serviced on line .
CAUTION
The collection bowl MUST be drained before any contaminants reach the bottom
of the turbine centrifuge.
CAUTION
The handle can rotate 360
º.
Therefore avoid the ‘BOTH OFF’ position (handle
pointing UP) if the engine is running. Refer to Racor Publication 15349 Rev. C.
CAUTION
Check fuel tanks and all hoses and fittings for fuel leaks AT LEAST MONTHLY.
