SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read these instructions carefully before use!
WARNING!
Never look directly at the sun with binoculars, as this can cause permanent eye damage and
even total blindness.
OPERATION
Adjusting the interpupillary distance
The distance between the eyes, known as the "interpupillary distance”, varies from person to person. To
adjust the binoculars to your eyes:
1.
Hold your binoculars in the normal viewing position (fig. 1).
2.
Hold each tube in a firm grip. Look through the binoculars and move the tubes closer together or
further apart until you see a visual field in the form of a circle. The binoculars are now correctly
adjusted to the distance between your pupils.
Diopter adjustment and focus
As individual visual acuity of the eyes varies from person to person, most binoculars have a special
diopter ring allowing you to fine-tune the binoculars to your eyesight. Follow the instructions below for the
diopter adjustment on the binoculars. Adjust the focus with the focus wheel between the two tubes.
1.
Set the interpupillary distance as described above.
2.
Adjust the diopter ring (fig. 2) to zero and look at a remote object that has fine details, e.g. a brick
wall or the branches of a tree.
3.
Keep both eyes open all the time.
4.
Use a lens cap or one hand to cover the lens (the large lens on the front of the binoculars) on the
side with the diopter ring. This is usually the right side (left side on zoom models).
5.
Use the focus wheel to adjust to the best possible focus.
6.
Now place the lens cap or one hand to cover the other lens and look at the same object.
7.
Adjust the focus with the diopter ring. Be careful when doing this. If the ring is turned too hard and
too far in one direction this could damage the binoculars or eyepiece.
8.
The binoculars are now correctly adjusted. Next time you need to adjust the focus on nearby or
remote objects, simply use the focus wheel. Make a note of the diopter setting and keep it handy if
other persons are using the binoculars.
Eye cups
Your binoculars have rubber eye cups that can be folded up and down or swivelled to exclude stray light
when looking through the binoculars (fig. 3). If you are wearing glasses or sunglasses, fold down the eye
cups so that your eyes come closer to the eyepieces for a better field of vision.
MAINTENANCE
Your binoculars will have a long life if you care for them as you would care for any fine optical instrument.
Models that are not watertight must be protected from water and moisture.
1.
If the binoculars have folding eye cups, store them with the eye cups folded up to avoid exposing
them to unnecessary strain.
2.
Protect the binoculars from hard knocks and blows.
3.
Keep your binocular in a cool, dry place.
