SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read these instructions carefully before use!
Make sure that the positive clip does not come into contact with any part of the vehicle other than
the positive battery terminal.
The battery tester is made of metal, and if it comes into contact with the battery or the car it can
result in a short-circuit.
Do not subject the battery tester to knocks.
Do not expose the battery tester to moisture or water.
Make sure that tools do not fall onto the battery and do not place the instrument on a battery.
Working with a lead-acid battery can be dangerous due to the explosive gases that the battery
generates. These gases can be ignited by a spark, a cigarette or a naked flame. Make sure that
sparks and naked flames cannot occur anywhere near the battery. If the gas is ignited, the battery
may explode. To minimise the risk of the battery exploding, it is important for you to carefully follow
the instructions in these Operating Instructions and from the battery’s manufacturer.
Always wear safety glasses. Make sure that your clothes, skin or eyes do not come into contact
with the battery. Do not hold your face closer to the battery than necessary.
Test equipment and other units that can generate electrical sparks must be held at least 45 cm
above the floor to reduce the risk of ignition of petrol or other flammable gases close to the floor.
If the vehicle is in a garage, for example, the premises must be well ventilated to ensure that any
gases and exhaust fumes are drawn out.
Before starting the engine, check that the vehicle is in parking mode (automatic gearbox) or in
neutral (manual gearbox).
Before starting the engine, apply the handbrake and block the wheels.
Ensure that the vehicle cannot move before standing in front of or behind the vehicle.
Never touch the spark plugs or spark plug leads when the engine is running. Do not remove the
instrument’s casing.
Keep hands, clothes, hair, test leads, test equipment and other objects away from fans, drive belts
and other moving parts in the vehicle.
The battery tester may only be repaired by an authorised service centre.
OPERATION
The battery tester is designed to measure the voltage of 6V and 12V batteries. Before connecting the
battery tester to the battery, check that it has been reset. Adjust the indicator needle with the screw on the
front of the meter.
Testing the battery
Make sure the battery terminals are clean. Connect the red clip to the battery’s positive terminal and the
black clip to the battery’s negative terminal. The clips must not come into contact with each other. Press
and hold the battery tester’s toggle switch for at least 10 seconds. Read off the value on the battery
tester. Compare the value with the battery analysis.
Charging test
Connect the clips to the battery terminals as above. Run the engine at high revs. Read off the value on
the battery tester. Do not press the toggle switch.
Maintenance
The clips must be wiped off after use. Apply a thin coat of silicone grease to prevent rust formation.
