Wiring
!
WARNING: Disconnect
the power supply before
wiring connections are
made to avoid electrical
shock or possible
damage to the equipment.
Make all wiring connections
using copper conductors only,
and in accordance with the
National Electrical Code and
local regulations. The
Pennswitch terminals are color
coded as follows: Red is
common, Red closes to Yellow
on air flow increase, Red closes
to Blue on air flow decrease (no
flow).
The circuit between the red and
yellow terminals will close when
the required air flow velocity is
reached within the duct where
the control is installed. An
indicator light or signal, when
connected to the blue terminal,
will be activated when the air
flow decreases or ceases.
!
CAUTION: Use the
terminal screws furnished
(8-32 × 1/4 in. binder head).
Substitution of other screws
may cause problems in
making connections.
Adjustment
!
CAUTION: The control is
factory set at approximately
the minimum flow rate, see
Flow Rate Table. It must
not be set lower than the
factory setting as this may
result in the control failing
to sense a “no flow”
condition.
Note
: Sealed adjustments are
not field adjustable.
To increase the setting, remove
the control cover the turn the
adjusting screw clockwise.
Air flow velocities, in FPM, that
are required to actuate the
switch for any given duct size
(horizontal or vertical upward
flow) are shown in the Flow Rate
Table (based on standard air
density of 0.075 pounds per
cubic foot).
Checkout Procedure
The circuit between the red and
yellow terminals will close when
air flows through the duct (where
the control is located) at the
required velocity. When
connected to the red and blue
terminals, the warning light or
signal will activate when the air
flow decreases or ceases.
Before leaving the installation,
observe at least three complete
operating cycles to be sure that
all components are functioning
correctly.
Repairs and Replacement
Field repairs must not be made
except for replacement of the
flow paddle. For a replacement
control or paddle kit, contact the
nearest Johnson Controls
distributor.
