The selected and configured drives have a bright blue light (see
show that they belong to the selected array. They may be arranged together,
spread across different rows in the same enclosure, or split across two different
enclosures.

Assigning a Dedicated Hot-Spare while Creating an Array
The dedicated hot-spare can be assigned while you are creating the array. When
you have finished choosing the member drives to use in the array configuration,
before going to a new screen, you can also select (assign) one or more drives as
dedicated hot-spares (see
), which will be associated only with the array
being created.
Click the blue box with an available drive in the Spare column (see
Watch the information at the bottom of the window. The Dedicated and Global
Hot-Spare will toggle back and forth (Yes/No) as you select or deselect the
dedicated hot-spare drive. When you are satisfied with your selection, click Next
to review the summary of your current settings (see
on how to create a Global Hot-Spare, please refer to
in Chapter 3.
