Operating your Jindara Cottage
(Continued)
Overnight burn
Approximately 30 minutes before turning the heater down to overnight burn it is recommended to load the heater with fuel for the overnight
burn. Leave the air control in the medium to high position. Let the heater run for about thirty minutes. This will reduce the moisture content
in the fuel before shut down. (This will help reduce the creosote formation in the firebox and flue.) Set the air control to the setting you have
found best for your requirements. The aim when overnight burning is to have only a few hot embers left in the bottom of the firebox in the
morning. Not huge lumps of wood. Note: Not all woods will last overnight.
Cleaning your flue
Carefully remove baffle plate and put it to one side. Close the firebox door, and position flue damper control in the open position using the
flue damper control handle. Obtain a 150mm dia. flue brush from your local Jindara Dealer and proceed up onto your roof. Remove the cowl.
Slowly push the flue brush down the chimney until it stops. Pull the brush back out and repeat the process. Each time you do this you will
notice that the brush will go further down the chimney till it reaches the bottom. The soot and creosote will fall down the chimney and into
the firebox. Clean residue from firebox. Replace the baffle plate. Make sure you do the job well. The cleaner the flue the less chance there
will be of the creosote sticking again. After you have replaced the cowl, inspect the roof flashing for any damage that may have been
incurred whilst you were cleaning the flue. Reseal the seal on the roof with roof and gutter silicone if required.
Cleaning the soot tray & internal side panels
The soot tray & the internal cavity each side of the cooker should be cleaned at regular intervals in the following manner:
1. Open oven door.
2. Remove bottom panel below oven door (held by 2 screws).
3. Unscrew the 2 knobs & remove cover.
4. Slide out the soot tray & give it a good clean.
5. Using the L shape scraper tool supplied, slide tool up between the firebox side & wrapper panels. Remove creosote using a sweeping
motion. Repeat for opposite side.
6. Make sure all soot & creosote has been removed from all surrounding areas including the tray cavity.
7. Replace tray & panels.
Operating your oven
When ready to start cooking in your oven make sure
there is a good fire burning in the firebox. Move the flue
damper control forward to the closed position for oven
use.
To regulate the temperature in the oven:
(a) Move the air slide control in (cooler) or out (hotter)
to the required setting.
(b) Remove and place to the side 1 or 2 of the air hole
covers on top of the cooker using the tool supplied.
