Intended usage

Mounting

The UMG 510 is intended to be mounted on fixed
and weatherproof panels.
Electrically conducting panels must be properly
grounded. To ensure adequate ventilation the UMG
510 must be vertical mounted. Do not cover the ven-
tilation slots. Sufficient space (at least 5cm) must be
provided above and under the unit. Keep 5cm space
sideways to install the ethernet cable.

The UMG510 is capable of continuous and non-
monitored operation. Power supply and measured
voltages must comply to the rated values.
Use current transformers with 1A or 5A secondary
windings for current measurement.

Usage of a circuit breaker is required for the meas-
ured voltage and the power supply of the UMG 510.
Appropriate fusing (2..10A) must be used on the
power supply and measured voltage. The circuit
breaker must be placed near to the UMG 510 and
has to be easily accessible.

Measurement

The UMG 510 is intended to measure electrical val-
ues such as voltage, current, power etc. in substa-
tions or similar installations. Measured values will be
recorded and stored in the internal data memory.
The PAS 510 software is used to read out and ana-
lyse the data according to

EN 50160

 and

EN 61000-

2-4

. The PAS 510 software is included in the unit.

EN 50160

Voltage characteristics of electricity supplied by pub-
lic distribution systems. Survey of the supply voltage

flicker

EN 61000-2-4

Compliance levels for low-frequency conducted dis-
turbances in industrial power supply systems.
Compliance levels for

deviation of the voltage level
voltage unsymmetry
frequency fluctuations
harmonics
THD
interharmonics

The DC component of the voltage is not evaluated
and monitored.

TN and TT networks

The measurement is intended to be used in three
phase systems with neutral conductor.

IT networks

Usage of the UMG 510 with insulated power distri-
bution systems is restricted.
As the case of the unit must be earthed, the input
impedance of the unit causes leakage currents to
ground potential. This may cause insulation monitors
to trip. In case of ground faults the maximum input
voltage of the UMG 510 may be exceeded, this may
be dangerous for the operator or may cause dam-
age to the unit.

Usage of potential transformers is recommended for
insulated power distribution systems.

Medium and high voltage

Potential and current transformers are always re-
quired for measurements in medium and high volt-
age distribution systems. Special safety regulations
are to be observed using these transformers.

Choose the appropriate circuit diagram from fig. 4.6
and fig. 4.1b.
A common used circuit is fig. 4.6, mainly seen in
metering circuit of medium voltage distribution. Set
the UMG 510 to "3ph, 3w, 2m" when using this cir-
cuit. Protection circuits often use fig. 4.1b. This is
also expected in high voltage distribution. Set the
UMG 510 to "3ph, 3w, 3m" or "3ph, 4w, 3m" regard-
ing the objective of the measurement.

The "3ph, 4w, 3m" mode measures the line voltages
regarding to ground (earth) potential. The "3ph, 3w,
3m" setting uses an artificial neutral point (not nec-
essarily identical to ground potential) as reference
for the measured voltages.

Neutral line measurement

Use the circuit according to fig. 4.13 to measure the
neutral line current. The UMG 510 unit evaluates the
sum of the L1 to L3 and N currents. This equals the
ground leakage current. The auxiliary voltage meas-
urement input could be used to monitor the voltage
difference between neutral and ground potential.
