OPTIONAL WINCH OPERATION
If the vehicle is equipped with a winch, read, understand and follow all the information supplied by the winch manufac-
turer about operation and use before operating the winch. Also read and follow all the information provided in this sec-
tion.
Relocate the Winch
The winch can be mounted at the front or rear of the vehicle to
accommodate different situations. At the front, it mounts under the
front cowl to a bracket on the front axle as shown. At the rear, the
winch mounts
upside down
in the hitch receiver.
1.
Before moving the winch, unplug the winch connector from
the wire harness.
2.
Remove the spring pin, pull out the clevis pin and remove the
winch mount tube from the receiver.
3.
Move the winch to the opposite end of the vehicle, insert the
clevis pin and secure with the spring pin. Plug the winch con-
nector into the wire harness. The winch remote control plugs
into the receptacle on the seat support.
Unwind the Cable
1.
Pull the clutch knob out and rotate 90 degrees to lock out.
2.
Using the hand saver bar, pull the cable from the winch drum.
Leave at least five turns of cable on drum.
3.
Re-engage the drum by turning the clutch knob 90 degrees,
returning it to original position.
Wind the Cable
1.
Use the hand saver bar to keep tension on the cable while activating the remote control.
2.
When winding the cable, make sure the cable winds tightly and evenly onto the drum. Gapping or a loose cable
could cause premature wear to the cable.
When using the winch under a load, operate the remote control from as far to the side of the vehicle as possible.
Do not operate the winch while sitting in the passenger seat.
Read all of the following section (WINCH APPLICATIONS) before you operate the winch.
WINCH APPLICATIONS
The winch can be used for many purposes, including pulling the vehicle if the wheels lose traction.
The winch can be used to move a vehicle that is stuck or hung up on an obstruction. The winch can be relocated to the
front or back of the vehicle to accommodate the particular situation if necessary. See Relocate the Winch on page 25.
