10.Remove the floor jack, start engine and hold joy-
stick in the raise position, observe the open end of
test hose in the container.
Conclusion
• If hydraulic oil does not flow from the cylinder test
hose, the cylinder is not bypassing.
• If oil flows from the cylinder test hose, the cylinder is
bypassing oil and must be replaced or repaired.
11. Repeat test for each lift cylinder on the circuit, if
leaking cylinder is not found, issue will be a leak-
ing check valve in the lift valve.

POWER STEERING SYSTEM TEST
The purpose of this test is to determine if the steering
cylinder and the steering unit are operating properly
(Figure 8M-2).
1. With the engine running, turn the steering wheel
all the way right and then all the way left.
Conclusion
• If the steering wheel becomes hard to turn or stops
turning and a hissing sound is heard after steering
the maximum right and/or left, the steering unit is not
at fault.
• If the steering wheel continues to turn, proceed with
the test.
2. With the engine off, remove both hydraulic hoses
from the steering cylinder, plug the hoses and cap
the cylinder ports.
3. With the engine on, turn the steering wheel all the
way to the right and then all the way left.
Conclusion
• If the steering wheel becomes hard to turn or stops
turning the cylinder is at fault and should be repaired
or replaced.
• If the steering wheel continues to turn, this is an
indication that the steering unit has internal leakage
or the charge pump may be at fault. Perform an
instrument test (Section 8G).

Before performing the test, check the steering sys-
tem for mechanical binding and damage that may
effect the steering.
