Attention
Lithium-ion batteries are just not Nordic by nature, and so the eScooter
batteries also like mild temperatures between 15 °C and 25 °C. At low
temperatures, batteries quickly lose capacity and voltage because the
liquid electrolyte in the battery loses its electrical conductivity. In order
to deliver the accustomed performance, the battery has to provide more
energy, which means that it runs out of power faster and this gnaws
away at the range and charging speed.
This can also be compared very easily with an electric car: The ADAC and
its Austrian colleagues from ÖAMTC tested how high range losses can be
in cold weather. At a speed of 30 km/h to 50 km/h, the test car only got
half as far at 0 °C as at 20 °C. This means a loss of up to 50%. Below 0, the
range even dropped by up to 65%. The situation is similar with
eScooters. We can determine the following approximate values here:
under 0 °C – Range loss – 65 %
0 °C – 5 °C – Range loss – 50 %
6 °C – 10 °C – Range loss – 40 %
11°C – 14 °C – Range loss – 20-30 %
15°C – 20 °C – Range loss – 1- 5- %
at 20 °C: no range loss
