REMOVING/INSTALLING THE
BATTERY TRAY (FIGURE 10)
Removing
1. Remove the front and rear shrouds. Refer to RE-
MOVING/INSTALLING SHROUDS in PROCEDURE
10 of this manual.
2. Remove the front and rear battery boxes. Refer to
REMOVING/INSTALLING THE BATTERY BOXES in
PROCEDURE 11 of this manual.
3. Remove the seat. Refer to one (1) of the following:
A. REMOVING/INSTALLING THE STANDARD
SEAT FRAME in PROCEDURE 6 of this manual.
B. REMOVING/INSTALLING THE CAPTAIN’S VAN
SEAT in PROCEDURE 6 of this manual.
C. REMOVING/INSTALLING THE RECLINER SEAT
FRAME in PROCEDURE 13 of this manual.
4. Remove the drive wheels. Refer to REMOVING/IN-
STALLING THE DRIVE WHEELS in PROCEDURE
9 of this manual.
5. For wheelchairs equipped with motors that have
clutches, perform the following: Refer to DETAIL “A”.
A. Remove the pin that secures the clutch handle to
the existing motor/gearbox.
B. Disconnect clutch handle from existing motor/
gearbox.
6. Remove the three (3) outside and two (2) inside mount-
ing screws that secure one (1) motor/gearbox and bat-
tery tray to the base frame.
7. Remove the motor/gearbox from wheelchair frame.
8. Perform STEPS 6 and 7 for opposite motor/gearbox.
9. Remove battery tray from wheelchair frame.
Installing
NOTE: Battery Tray Installation Summary - The bat-
tery tray will need to be positioned on some type of sup-
port. The base frame will then be positioned on top of the
battery tray. The motor/gearboxes are then held in posi-
tion underneath the battery tray with mounting holes of all
three (3) components in alignment. Perform the following
steps to install the battery tray.
1. Position the new/existing battery tray on a support.
2. Position the base frame on the new/existing battery
tray so that the mounting holes on the base frame
align with the mounting holes on the battery tray.
3. Position the battery boxes onto the battery tray in
the following order:
A. TWO (2) connector battery box in FRONT so
that the "open" ends of the connectors are fac-
ing the REAR of the chair.
B. ONE (1) connector battery box in REAR so
that the flying lead is on the RIGHT side of the
wheelchair.
NOTE: Make sure the leads that connect the REAR
battery box to the FRONT battery box are on the same
side.
4. Position retaining straps around each battery box
as shown in DETAIL "B" of FIGURE 7 and clip re-
taining strap together.
5. Connect the REAR battery box lead to the FRONT
battery box lead.
6. Connect the FRONT battery box lead to the wiring
harness.
7. If necessary, reinstall the removable footboard.
