A.6 Slot Arrangement
As shown in Figure 4, “Two CompactPCI* Bus Segments” on page 14 , the midplane is divided
into two 64-bit CompactPCI* bus segments: CompactPCI segment 1 consists of peripheral slots 3-
8 and multi-purpose slots 9 and 11. CompactPCI segment 2 consists of peripheral slots 13-18 and
multi-purpose slots 10 and 12. Multi-purpose slots for each segment are interleaved to support
Redundant Host mode.
The two segments can be used independently by installing a system slot board in one multi-purpose
slot per segment. In this case peripheral boards may be used in the additional multi-purpose slots,
as illustrated in the
Figure 5, “Two Independent CompactPCI* Bus Segments” on page 15 .
CompactPCI segments 1 and 2 can be bridged together, as illustrated in Figure 6, “One Extended
CompactPCI* Bus Configuration” on page 16 , by installing a two-slot wide system slot/bridge
mezzanine board set (Intel's ZT 5524A SBC and ZT 4901A I/O Mezzanine card) in slots 9 and 10,
10 and 11, or 11 and 12. Again, peripheral boards may be used in the additional multi-purpose
slots.
To operate with redundant host processor boards, install a redundant host/bridge mezzanine board
set (Intel's ZT 5524A SBC and ZT 4901A I/O Mezzanine card) in slots 9 and 10, and a second
redundant host/bridge mezzanine board set in slots 11 and 12, as illustrated in
Figure 7,
“Redundant Hosts Controlling Two CompactPCI* Bus Segments” on page 17 .
Node Slots 3 through 20 can communicate with each other via Ethernet through switches located in
slot 2, and slot 21. Additionally, peripheral slots 3-8 and 13-18 can communicate with each other
via the H.110 telephony bus

Slots 19 and 20 are PCI-less node slots, offering Ethernet communication without connection to the
CompactPCI buses or H.110 telephony bus.
