3.1.1
Installing the CMM
The following instructions cover the mechanical aspects of installing the ZT 7102 CMM in a ZT
5085 system. Refer to the Intel
®
NetStructure™ ZT 7102 Chassis Management Module Technical
Product Specification for more information on configuring the CMM. See
for document ordering information.
1. System power does not need to be off to install a CMM. CMMs must only be inserted in slot
1A and/or 1B (refer to
Figure 32, “ZT 5085 Connector Locations (Front and Rear)” on
for slot identification).
2. Remove the filler-panel or existing CMM (see
Section 3.1.2, “Removing the CMM” on
for removal instructions).
3. Prepare the new/replacement CMM by opening its injector/ejector handle (refer to
“Injector/Ejector Operation (Board-Level Components)” on page 33
).
4. Carefully align the edges of the board with the card guides in the CMM slot. It may be helpful
to look into the enclosure to verify correct alignment of the rails in the guides.
5. Taking care to keep the board aligned in the guides, slide the board in until the injector/ejector
mechanism engages the retention bar.
6. Simultaneously push in the board and rotate the injector/ejector handle to its closed position
(rotate inward) to seat the midplane connectors.
7. If system power is on, the CMM boots and its status LED lights green (active CMM)or blinks
green (standby CMM). It can take several seconds for the LED to change from red to green or
blinking green.
8. Screw in the board retention screws to anchor the board in the chassis. This screw is located at
the opposite end of the faceplate from the ejector handle. The screws are located at the top and
the bottom of the board.
By default, the CMM sets its IP addresses statically. The IP addresses should be reconfigured for
your network the first time you log on, prior to adding the CMM to your network. Refer to the
Intel
®
NetStructure™ ZT 7102 Chassis Management Module Technical Product Specification for
more information.
3.1.2
Removing the CMM
The following instructions cover removing the ZT 7102 CMM from a system.
Note:
Because the CMMs control the power to every slot in the system (via BDSEL#), if both the system’s
CMMs are removed simultaneously all the boards in the system lose power. When removing a
CMM from a powered system, the CMM performs a controlled shutdown of itself but not the other
boards in the system. Therefore, you should ensure that a second CMM is present and synchronized
before removing a CMM. If a second CMM is not available, you should ensure the entire system is
in a “safe” state before removing the CMM.
1. System power does not need to be off to remove a CMM board, but boards may shut down.
2. Unscrew the board retention screws that fastens the board to the enclosure. These screws are
located at the top and the bottom of the board.
3. If system power is off or the CMM’s blue hot swap LED is on, proceed to step
. If not, the
CMM needs to be in a “safe” state before it can be removed. Signal the CMM that it is about to
be removed by partially unlatching its ejector. Do not fully open the ejector as this levers the
