8 – MIDI Implementation

8.1–General

MIDIstandsforMusicalInstrumentDigitalInterface,andistheworldwidestandardforexchangingmusicaldata

betweenelectronicmusicalinstrumentsandcomputers.

WhenMIDIcablesareusedtoconnecttwoormoreMIDIdevices,performancedatacanbeexchanged

betweenthedevices,eveniftheyweremadebydifferentmanufacturers.

TheUNOSynthtransmitsthefrontpanelknobsorbuttonsmovementviacontinuouscontroller(CC)messages

toletyoucontrolotherexternalMIDIdevices.

AseachparameterandcontrolonthesynthhasitsownuniqueControlChangenumber,itispossibleto

completelycontroltheunitviaexternalcontrollersorcomputers.

MIDIdatacanalsobeexchangedbetweentheUNOSynthandyourcomputerusingtheprovidedUSBcablein

additiontotheMIDIDINports.

ItispossibletosynchronizetheUNOSynth’stempototheMIDIclockofanexternalMIDIsequencerorother

device.

IfyouwanttousetheUNOkeyboard,controls,arpandsequencertoplaysoundsonortocontrolanexternal

instrument,connecttheUNOSynthMIDIOUTconnectortotheexternalinstrumentMIDIINconnectorusinga

MIDIcable.

8.3–ControlUNOSynthfromExternalDevices

IfyouwanttoplayorcontroltheUNOSynthfromanotherMIDIkeyboard,sequencerorotherexternaldevice,

connecttheMIDIOUTconnectoroftheexternalMIDIdevicetotheUNOSynth’sMIDIINjackwithaMIDIcable.

8.4–ConnectingUNOSynthtoacomputerviaMIDI

YoumightwanttoplaytheUNOSynthandrecordyourperformanceonacomputer(connectedusingaMIDI

interface)and/orplaytheUNOSynthwhilemonitoringwhatyourecorded.YoualsomightwanttousetheUNO

Synthasbothaninputdeviceforplayingnotesandasatonegenerator.Inallofthesecases,connecttheMIDI

OUTconnectortotheMIDIINconnectoronboththeUNOSynthandthecomputer.
