1. Preliminary Instructions:
1. Verify that the Igniter replacement kit is correct for
the model of boiler. See table on page 1.
2. Carefully open and unpack the PARTS BOX from its
shipping carton.
3. Carefully remove and check for any damage.
NOTICE
Do not proceed with installation and contact Ideal USA right
away if the igniter is damaged in any way.
4. Turn off the electrical power supply to the boiler.
5. Close the manual gas shut off valve to the unit.
2. Igniter Removal Instructions:
1. Remove the front jacket panel.
2. Disconnect the black connector from the igniter.
3. Disconnect the ground wire from the igniter base.
4. Remove the screws securing the igniter to the heat
exchanger top plate.
5. Remove and discard the old igniter and igniter gas-
ket.
NOTICE
If the gasket “sticks” to the mounting plate use a flat blade
putty knife to remove any gasket material. Make sure not to
scratch or score the mating surface.
3. Igniter Installation Instructions:
1. Verify the igniter gap on the new igniter is approx-
imately 1/8.
2. Place the new igniter gasket onto the new igniter.
NOTICE
For the reassembly process do not use adhesives on ANY gas-
ket surface.
3. Gently place the new igniter into the heat exchang-
er top plate. Ensure the igniter is not damaged or
insulation is not torn during installation
WARNING
!
Operating the boiler with a damaged igniter or torn
insulation can cause the boiler to operate improperly,
resulting in death, serious injury or substantial prop-
erty damage.
NOTICE
The mounting hole for the Igniter is keyed and will only allow
the igniter to be installed in the proper orientation.
4. Hand tighten both igniter screws. Once both screws
are hand tight, torque each screw to 13-18 in-lbs,
alternating between tightening the two screws.
5. Connect the ground wire to the new igniter base.
WARNING
!
Installing the igniter without the grounding tab will
leave the boiler not properly grounded and may re-
sult in serious injury, substantial property damage or
death.
6. Connect the black ignition cable to the new igniter.
NOTICE
Ensure the black cable is freely connected between the igniter
and spark transformer and not resting against any objects.
7. Turn power to the unit “ON”.
8. Perform 3 to 4 ignitions and verify that the unit
lights normally.
9. Reinstall the front cover and place the unit back in
service.
