Notes:
1. Depending on the options that you installed, you might need to run the
Configuration/Setup Utility program to complete the server configuration. See the
User’s Reference for more information.
2. If you installed a SCSI drive, check the lights to verify proper operation.
Rack installation considerations
For air flow reasons, observe the following guidelines in the rack cabinet in which you
install the xSeries 330 server:
• Do not install any equipment that cools from back to front into the same rack as an
xSeries 330 server.
• Install a filler panel on the front of all unoccupied slots in the rack.
Working with cables
Your server has two different cabling options, the Advanced System Management
(ASM) bus and the Cable Chain Technology (C2T). The following sections discuss
each of these options. While reading about these options, remember that they are
independent of each other.
1. Refer to the following illustration to locate the connectors on the back of your
server.
The ASM ports on the back of the server are referred to in this book as
RS-485 (A) and RS-485 (B).
2. Connect the power cords and all external cables to the server; then, plug the
power cords into properly grounded electrical outlets.
3. Continue with “Cabling the RS-485 ports” and “Connecting the servers with a C2T
chain” on page 17.
Cabling the RS-485 ports
You can use the RS-485 connectors to create an ASM bus between several xSeries
330 servers.
