Reconnecting the system to the network and fabric

Attention:

Refer to “Managing cables” on page 46 for information on how to

physically manage the arrangement of the cables within the SAN768B-2 chassis,
and cautions on handling and routing the cables.

Refer to the cable routing information recorded in “Cable routing tables” on page
128
to ensure the correct cable connections in the steps below.

Complete the following steps to reconnect the system to the network and fabric.

1.

Connect the CP blades to the local area network, one blade at a time.

a.

Insert the appropriate Ethernet cables into each Ethernet port.

b.

Connect the other ends to an Ethernet 10/100/1000 Base-T LAN, if not
already connected.

Note:

The SAN768B-2 can be accessed by remote connection using any of

the available management tools, such as Telnet or Web Tools. Ensure that
the SAN768B-2 is not modified from other connections during the rest of
this procedure.

2.

Reconnect the transceivers and cables to the port blades, as required (see
“Removing and installing transceivers” on page 108) for details.

Note:

The ports and cables used in trunking groups must meet specific

requirements. For a list of these requirements, refer to the

Fabric OS

Administrator’s Guide

.

a.

Install a transceiver into each port, if not already installed (see “Removing
and installing transceivers” on page 108).

b.

Select the cable that corresponds to the port and position it so that the key
(the ridge on one side of the cable connector) is aligned with the slot in the
transceiver. Insert the cable into the transceiver until the latching
mechanism clicks.

c.

Repeat step b for each remaining port on the blade.

Attention:

Do not route cables in front of the air exhaust vent (located on

the upper port side of the chassis.)

The minimum bend radius should be no smaller than 10x the cable radius.

Do not use tie wraps for optical cables because they can be easily
overtightened, breaking the cable causing connectivity problems.

d.

Repeat steps a through c for each of the remaining port and application
blades.

3.

Organize the cables as required (see “Managing cables” on page 46).

Verifying the correct configuration of the fabric

Details on configuring the fabric are included in the

Fabric OS Administrator's Guide

and the

Fabric OS Command Reference

, which are included on the product

documentation CD shipped with the product.

Copying the command outputs from this section into a file is recommended. Verify
the correct configuration of the fabric by following the steps below.

1.

Create an "after" SAN profile by entering the following commands and copying
the output to a text file named "SANafter.txt".
