Installing a DC Power Supply

About this task

The DC power supply for the IBM c-type SAN Device is 3000 W.

Note:

Hazardous voltage or energy is present on the backplane when the system is

operating. Use caution when servicing.

To install a DC power supply in the IBM c-type SAN Device, follow these steps:

Procedure

1.

Ensure that all power is off by locating the circuit breaker on the panel board
that services the DC circuit. Switch the circuit breaker to the off position, and
tape the switch handle of the circuit breaker in the off position.

Note:

Before performing any of the following procedures, ensure that power is

removed from the DC circuit.

2.

Grasp the power supply unit handle with one hand, and place your other hand
underneath the power supply unit to support its weight. Align the back of the
power supply unit with the power supply bay and slide the power supply all
the way into the power supply bay until the release lever clicks. Make sure that
the power supply unit does not pull out of the power supply bay without
pressing the release lever.

3.

If the power cables are not already connected to the DC power source, connect
them as follows:

a.

Unscrew the three screws on top of the terminal box located in front of the
power supply, and remove the safety cover.

b.

Unscrew two nuts from each of the four terminal slots in the terminal box.

c.

In each of two negative slots (labeled as -), place the lug on the end of a
negative power cable, and fasten with two nuts.

d.

Tighten the nuts to 40 in-lb (4.5 N-m). In each of two positive slots (labeled
as +), place the lug on the end of a positive power cable, and fasten with
two nuts.

e.

Tighten the nuts to 40 in-lb (4.5 N-m).

f.

Place the safety cover on the terminal box and fasten with three screws.

4.

Turn on the power at the DC power source circuit breaker. The input LEDs
turn on when the circuit turns on.

5.

If more than two DC power supplies are installed, make sure that half of the
supplies are from separate power feeds or buses than the other half for
redundancy from the loss of a feed or bus.
CAUTION:
In a system with dual power supplies, connect each power supply to a
separate source. In case of a line failure, the second source will most likely
still be available.

6.

Verify power supply operation by checking that the power supply LEDs are in
the following states:

v

Input OK LED is IN.

v

Output Fail LED is Fault.
