Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
For further information on battery disposal, call IBM at 1-800-IBM-4333 (1-800-
426-4333) in the U.S. For information outside of the U.S., contact your IBM reseller
or marketing representative.
To change the battery, do the following:
1. Turn off the computer and all attached devices.
2. Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover” on page 38.
3. Remove the CD-ROM drive. See “Removing the CD-ROM drive” on page 41.
4. Locate the battery. See “System board” on page 37.
5. Remove the old battery.
6. Install the new battery.
7. Reinstall the CD-ROM drive.
8. Replace the cover, and plug in the power cord.
Note: When the computer is turned on for the first time after battery
replacement, an error message might be displayed. This is normal after
the battery is replaced.
9. Turn on the computer and all attached devices.
10. Use the Configuration/Setup Utility program to set the date and time and
any passwords.
11. Dispose of the old battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
