UTP Cabling
The following section describes UTP cabling.
Daisy-chain UTP Cabling
Note: Daisy-chain UTP cabling is not supported.
In daisy-chain topologies, do not replace twinax cables with baluns and UTP/
FTP cable. UTP/FTP cable is not supported in daisy-chain topologies. Only a
single UTP device can be directly attached to a twinax port on the workstation
controller. In order to support multiple devices using UTP/FTP cabling, a
twinax UTP star hub must be used.
Twinax over UTP/FTP is only supported when wired in a star topology. A star
topology is one in which a signal connection to the twinax port from the
workstation controller attaches to a twinax UTP hub and the outputs from this
hub “stars” out to the individual devices.
UTP Cabling Standards
Categories (levels of performance) for UTP wiring are defined by the
Electronic Industries Association/Telecommunication Industry Association
(EIA/TIA), Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), cable manufacturers, and
others.
Refer to the electrical specifications for level 3, 4, and 5 UTP and for FTP
cables in Figure 72.
