4.7.3 Configuring Value-Added Features
This section explains how to configure and manage value-added features such as
deduplication, Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) target server, BranchCache,
distributed file system (DFS), and Hyper-V.
4.7.3.8 Configuring Deduplication
Deduplication stores a single duplicate of the same data on a volume and uses a duplicate
pointer to replace the repeated data, decreasing storage space occupation and improving
storage space utilization.
Prerequisites
The hardware of the N2000 server has been installed and powered on.
You have logged in to Windows Storage Server 2012.
Procedure
Step 1
Choose
File and Storage Services
>
Volumes
from the navigation tree of the Server
Manager that is automatically started after a login to the operating system.
Step 2
Right-click the volume for which you want to enable the deduplication feature and choose
Configure Data Deduplication
from the shortcut menu.
Step 3
In the
Deduplication Settings
window, set parameters based on your actual requirements.
1.
Set
Deduplicate files folder than(in days)
. The default value is
5
, indicating that
deduplication is implemented on files stored for at least five days. You are advised to
keep the default value.
2.
Set
File extensions to exclude
so that deduplication is not implemented on the specified
types of files. Use commas (,) to separate multiple file name extensions. For example, if
File extensions to exclude
is set to
doc,xls,ppt,txt
, deduplication is not implemented on
these types of files.
3.
Click
Add
to specify a folder on the specified volume so that deduplication is not
implemented on the specified folder and its contents.
4.
Click
Set deduplication schedule
to set policies for carrying out deduplication tasks.
