5. 5. Window cleanliness
Window cleanliness is affected by the use of a suitable fuel, sufficient supply of combustion air, appropriate chimney draught and correct operation of the stove.
In this respect, we recommended that you add only one layer of fuel and in such a way that it is laid out as evenly as possible in the firebox and as far from the
glass as possible. This also applies to briquettes (distance between them of 2mm to 10mm). In the event that the glass is dirtied while heating, we recommend
that the intensity of the burn is increased by opening up the air regulator, which will usually clean the glass itself.
5. 6. Operation during a transition period and during poor climatic conditions
During the transition period between seasons or during higher outdoor temperatures above 15 °C, on rainy or humid day, during strong wind gusts, the draught
of the chimney may be negatively affected (draught of the stove) and the exhaust gases are not completely removed. For this reason, during this period the
wood stove must be operated with as little fuel as possible in order to be able to improve the burning of the fuel and the chimney draught by opening up the
air supply.
5. 7. Exchanging the hot water heat exchanger for a plug
On the Aquaflam VARIO wood stove the hot water heat exchanger is screwed into the inside of the stove‘s body. On this stove, it is possible to remove the heat
exchanger and replace it with a plug (deflector), which works like a draught deflector. A stove modified in this way can then only be used for convection-type
operation. The plug is supplied as a special accessory.
Attention: A wood stove that is equipped with a heat exchanger cannot be operated without being connected to a hot water system and without being filled
with water or an antifreeze mixture.
5. 8. Ash removal
Depending on the length of the burn and its intensity, it is necessary to use the poker to knock the ash down through the grate into the ashtray. Make sure that
the ashtray is not overfilled as this could prevent air from being delivered under the grate resulting in subsequent lighting up and burning problems.
It is best to empty the ashtray when it has cooled down, ideally before lighting up the next load. The ash from burned wood can be put in the compost or used
as a fertilizer.
Attention: Before emptying out the ashtray, check that it does not contain any glowing ambers, which could result in a fire in the waste container.
6. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
6. 1. Cleaning the wood stove
It is necessary, at least once per year (after the heating season) or more frequently if need be, to clean out the wood stove when it is cold. When cleaning, it is
necessary to remove the creosote from the smoke flue pipes, the combustion area and the draught deflecting dampers. Repair, ideally by replacing the parts
that have fallen out of the firebrick lining. It is necessary to monitor the completeness of the firebrick lining even during the heating season. The gaps between
the individual firebrick plates serve as expansion joints that prevent the plates from cracking and it is not suitable to fill the gaps in any way (e.g. with putty) as
was the standard procedure on older types of solid fuel burning stoves.
Cracked firebrick panels do not lose their function unless they fall out completely!
Oven and stove cleaners can be used to clean the glass using a dry soft wiping cloth or newspaper. Special wood stove glass cleaning agents can also be
used. It is absolutely essential that the glass is cleaned only when cool. Never use water for cleaning lacquered parts of the stove, it recommended that you
use a plastic foam sponge or a soft flannel cloth. Regular cleaning of the chimney flue will prevent the ignition of the creosote accumulated on the walls of
the chimney.
6. 2. Chimney fire
In the event of a chimney fire, it is necessary to immediately put out the fire in the stove by removing the remaining burning fuel using a shovel into a suitable
non-combustible container and to immediately call the fire service (line 150) or line 112 of the integrated emergency system.
6. 3. Cleaning ceramics and tiles
For the cleaning of ceramic tiles, we recommend the use of only a dry, or at most a lightly dampened cloth. Only clean when the stove is cold.
6. 4. Cleaning the hot water heat exchanger
It is necessary to clean the flues of the heat exchanger as necessary using the included cleaning brush. At least 2x per heating season. The degree to which
creosote accumulates inside depends primarily on the moisture content of the fuel and the method of operation (e.g. operation in the economic mode – with
the air regulator closed). Access to the heat exchanger flues is from the firebox area or after removing the smoke flue pipes.
6. 5. Gasket cords and tapes
A special glass-ceramic gasket tape lined with a textile is used for sealing the contact surfaces of the door and glass (or other parts of the stove). The cord
is able to resist high temperatures. We recommend that you inspect the condition of the gaskets seals and to replace them for new ones when their function
is lost.
6. 6. Spare parts / Service
Warranty and post-warranty repairs are performed by the manufacturer or the importer (with written agreement of the manufacturer) of the wood stove. It is
also possible to order spare parts from at the address of the exclusive distributor.
List of spare parts:
glass, grate, gasket cord, ashtray, electronic regulator, batteries, door frame, heat sensors, paint. When necessary, use only original spare parts recommended
by the manufacturer of the Aquaflam VARIO wood stove.
6. 7. Stove‘s packaging material, disposal of packaging
The stove is supplied on a wooden pallet, it is wrapped in a clear PP 10 plastic foil, cardboard box and may be secured using a polystyrene board. After
unpacking, it is necessary to sort everything and take it to a waste collection point pursuant to the Waste Act No. 185/2001 Coll.
