This method initiates a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS before the server enters standby
mode.
• Press and hold the Power On/Standby button for more than four seconds to force the server to enter
standby mode.
This method forces the server to enter standby mode without properly exiting applications and the OS. If
an application stops responding, you can use this method to force a shutdown.
A red system power LED means that the server is in standby mode. Auxiliary power is still present in the
system in this mode.
Verify that the system power LED on the server is red

Prepare the server for hardware installation or removal
Prerequisites
Before powering down the server for any upgrade or maintenance procedures, perform a backup of critical
server data and programs.

Disconnect the power cord from the AC source, and then disconnect the power adapter from the server.

Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.

If installed, unlock and remove the Kensington security lock.

Connect all peripheral cables to the server.
3.
Connect the power adapter to the server, and then connect the power cord to the AC source.
