Essential Operator Skills
•
The operator must be the trained in the safe use of the machine.
•
The operator must be experienced in handling the animals to be shorn.
Operation
•
Only connect to a 12 volt DC power supply.
•
Always disconnect the power supply before changing combs and cutters.
•
Keep away from all liquids.
•
Never shear wet animals.
•
Never wrap the power cable around the machine.
•
Switch the machine to the off position before pulling out the plug.
•
Do not use combs with missing or broken teeth.
•
Sharpen combs and cutters on a specialist grinder.
•
Look out for wire, etc, in the fleece. Remove before shearing.
•
Keep clear of ear tags.
•
Keep unauthorised persons clear of the shearing area.
•
Store the machine in a clean and dry place, out of the reach of children.
•
Check the machine body and electrical cable for defects before use.
Circuit Breaker
•
The 12v to 24v step up is equipped with a circuit breaker which will trip in the event
of an overload. To reset the breaker, press the button on the side of the step up.
Tension Adjustment before Shearing
•
While the machine is still switched off, ensure that the conical pins on the chicken
feet sit exactly into the positioning holes in the cutter.
•
Tighten the tension nut until resistance is felt (illustration 1). Do not over-tighten.
•
If it is not cutting properly at the start of shearing you can add a little more tension.
•
Do not slacken off tension while the machine is running.
•
During shearing hair may collect between the comb and cutter if tension is not
sufficient. If this happens, the comb and cutter should be removed, cleaned, oiled
and re-fitted (as shown in illustration 2).
Switching on and off
•
There are two positions on the rocker switch. In position 1, the machine is on. In
position 0, the machine is switched off.
•
Put the rocker switch in the off position before plugging in the cable.
Lubrication
•
Before and during shearing place a few drops of oil on the comb and cutter and into
the lubrication hole on top of the handpiece body (illustration 2, item 2).
•
Inadequately oiled combs and cutters will overheat and go blunt quickly.
•
Oil the combs and cutters at least every 15 minutes.
•
Place one drop of oil in the side of the handpiece every 50 sheep
(illustation 2, item 3). Do not exceed this amount.
