INSTALLATION

When Installing this Product…

1. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them

can cause a hazardous condition.

2. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the

product to make sure the product is suitable for your
application.

3. Installer must be a trained, experienced service

technician.

4. After installation is complete, check out product

operation as provided in these instructions.

CAUTION

Disconnect power supply to prevent electrical shock
or equipment damage.

RECYCLING NOTICE

If this control is replacing a control that contains
mercury in a sealed tube, do

not place your old

control in the trash.

Contact your local waste management authority for
instructions regarding recycling and the proper
disposal of the old thermostat.

If you have questions, call Honeywell Inc. at 1-800-
468-1502.

Location

Install the thermostat about 5 ft (1.5m) above the floor in an
area with good circulation at room temperature.

Do not install the thermostat where it can be affected by:

drafts, or dead spots behind doors and in corners.

hot or cold air from ducts.

radiant heat from sun or appliances.

concealed pipes and chimneys.

unheated (uncooled) areas such as an outside wall
behind the thermostat.

If Replacing an Existing Thermostat

A

Turn off the thermostat power at the heat pump. In two-
transformer systems with two switches or disconnects;
turn off power to both.

B

Remove any existing wallplate or subbase from the
wall.

C

To avoid miswiring later, as the wire is removed, label
or write down each wire color with the letter or number
on the wiring terminal.

If New Installation

Run the cable to a hole at the selected wall location, and pull
about 6 in. (152 mm) of wire through the opening. Color-
coded, 18 to 22 gauge thermostat cable with at least one
conductor for each wiring terminal is recommended. Good
service practice recommends selecting cable with one or two
more conductors than the immediate application requires.

Mounting

Mount the thermostat horizontally on a wall. See Fig. 1 for
dimensions.

A

Hold mounting plate in position and mark the holes for
anchors.

B

Set aside the mounting plate.

C

Drill the three 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) holes and install the
three wall anchors (provided). Gently tap the anchors
into the holes until flush with the wall.

D

Pull the wires through the mounting plate cable
opening. See Fig. 2.

NOTE:

On a new installation, strip 3 in. (76 mm) of
cable sheathing off the end of the wire
bundle(s).
