Solutions

The following table describes typical technical issues that you may encounter from time
to time and tells you how to solve them.

If this happens …

Do this …

Function not operating

All the main functions can be enabled/disabled in their menu structure.

Example:

Hard alarms are connected to the unit, but when activated the unit does not react to
the external alarm. Go into the menus and enable the specific alarm that is
connected, then re-test.

Network/modem card not
recognized

For the system to check for a PCMCIA card, you must enable the Remote Access
feature. Go into the menu and enable Remote Access.

Video picture poor or
video levels incorrect

Check the length of the video cable run. Adjust the video at the source to
compensate for video run length.

If looping is performed, the video level may be too low. Disable video termination.

If video is too hot, ensure that video termination is on for non-looped application.

Video loss reported on
cameras not connected

The system can automatically detect cameras that are present and signal remaining
cameras as not connected. This eliminates the need to manually disable cameras
that are not present. Go into the menu, select the video option, and then select the
video detect option.

Unit not recording

Record light is on, LCD
says record, but there are
no clips on the hard drive.

Check the various calendars to ensure recording is enabled during the current time
period. Also, check that the triggers for motion or text events are properly set up.

Storage drives fill up too
quickly.

Check the compression ratio (see

Setting Simple Timelapse Mode With Motion

Detect Enabled

). The higher the quality, the slower the transmission of

images and the faster your hard drive will fill.

Check the Disk Setup screen (see

Configuring Storage Setup

) to see

how the drive capacity is partitioned. If you are only using Event Recording, and not
Timelapse, set the Drive Space Usage field to 100%.

Cameras do not record
enough fields per second

If two or more cameras are set to Motion mode, the record rate is split between
them. Check the Motion Event Setup screen (see

Setting Motion Events

).

When linked via the
Internet and RAS tries to
connect to the HRDV, the
Login screen appears but
after log in, the HRDV
never responds.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be restricting the Ethernet packet sizes to
less than 1500 bytes.

Reduce the PPPoE packet size until the connection is successful on the Advanced
Remote Setup screen (
