6. OPERATION - continued 

 

Shift Lever 

With the drive clutch released, move the shift lever to select 1

st

 (slow), 

2

nd

 (medium) or 3

rd

 (fast). 

Do not use the throttle lever to adjust your forward speed.  Forward speed 
should be adjusted with the shift lever, not the throttle lever.  The throttle 
lever must remain in the “HIGH” position for good mowing performance.  
Otherwise, cut quality suffers. 

 

 

 

 

 

The speed must only be changed with the mower stationary, release the clutch 
lever before changing gears.

 

For maximum mowing performance, use 1

st

 and 2

nd

 gears for mowing and 3

rd

 

gear for transporting. 

To avoid incomplete gear engagement, be sure the shift lever is centered in 
one of the three detent positions.
