2 Structure of the Gateway
Modern communication systems are structured in accordance with the ISO/OSI
reference model (ISO IS 7498). This is based on a 7-layer structure. Here, every
layer makes the services of the next higher layer available but only uses the servi-
ces of the next lower layer itself.
The Gateway fulfills this structure.
