Setup
Setup overview
Installation of a server requires the following steps:
1. Install and configure the chassis ( Installing the chassis into a rack on page 14).
2. Install any server options ( Installing hardware options on page 14).
3. Install the server ( Installing the server on page 14).
4. Power up the chassis ( Powering up the chassis on page 15).
5. Install an operating system ( Installing the operating system on page 15).
6. Register the product ( Registering the server on page 15).
Installing the chassis into a rack
To install the chassis into a rack, see the HPE Apollo k6000 Chassis User Guide on the Hewlett Packard
Enterprise website ( http://www.hpe.com/info/Apollok6000-docs ).
Installing hardware options
Install any hardware options before initializing the server. For options installation information, see the option
documentation. For server-specific information, see "
Hardware options installation on page 24."
Installing the server
Always populate the chassis from bottom to top, beginning with bay 1.
IMPORTANT: The left and right sides of the chassis are oriented 180° from each other. Components
installed on one side of the chassis must be turned 180° when they are installed on the opposite side.
Procedure
1. Install the server.
When seated properly, the server will be flush with the front of the chassis and the release lever will close
easily.
2. Press the Power On/Standby button.
The server exits standby mode and applies full power to the system. The system power LED changes from
amber to green.
