4 Cleaning and sterilization
Products are supplied in an unsterile state and must be cleaned and sterilised before use.
The electrode handles are sterile packed and must not be cleaned and sterilized before use.
They must be disposed of after single use.
Do not clean HF cables, adapters or electrode handles in an ultrasonic bath.
Do not sterilise HF cables, adapters or electrode handles and electrodes in hot air sterilisers.
If a Washing-Desinfection unit is used for cleaning: max 95 °C. The HF cable or handle also may be
immersed in a combined cleaning and disinfection solution (e.g. neodisher® MediClean forte, Dr.
Weigert Co.). In such a case, the service life may then be reduced due to oxidation of the contacts
and crystallisation in the plugs. Please
observe the chemical manufacturer’s instructions.
Then rinse cable, connectors, and handle or electrode thoroughly with demineralized water.
5 Instructions for Use
Thoroughly examine all products for visible irregularities. Do not use cables with a brittle or defective
insulation. In case of doubt check operation by means of a suitable testing device.
5.1 Connection to HF unit in monopolar mode
Connect
the the foot switch and the “active” HF cable to the HF unit. In order to avoid interference
with camera system, do not run HF cables directly in line with camera cables. Never place HF cables
directly on the patient’s skin. Never lay HF cables in loops. Next, connect the instrument or handle
with coagulation electrode, and switch on the HF unit. The electrode with the proper shaft diameter (4
mm or 2.4 mm) must be firmly attached to the handle tip.
5.2 Connection to HF unit in bipolar mode
In bipolar HF surgery the coagulation is restricted to the area between the two electrodes of the
bipolar instrument. Follow the recommendations regarding patient preparation in monopolar operating
mode and the corresponding instructions for the HF unit. When using the bipolar “Auto start” mode,
the cable used should not be longer than 4.5 m. Alternatively, use a twin cable with max. length of
5m.
!
On using the fractionated vacuum method,
sterilization
must be performed with at least
134°C (USA 132° C)
with a
minimum dwell period of 3 minutes.
Vacuum drying must
then be carried out for at least 20 minutes.
