D.  Glowing Ember and Lava Rock Placement

Place glowing embers as shown in Figure 11.13.

WARNING! Risk of Explosion! Follow ember placement in-
structions in manual. DO NOT place embers directly over 
burner ports. Replace ember material annually. Improperly 
placed embers interfere with proper burner operation.

Placing the Ember Material

Ember material is shipped with this gas appliance. To place 
the ember material:

•  Embers may only be placed in areas as shown in Figure 

11.13. Care should be taken not to cover the lighting trail 
of ports near pilot assembly as shown in Figure 11.13. 

•  When placing Glowing Embers

®

 onto the burner care 

should be taken so that the ports are not covered. Place 
the dime-size ember pieces.  See Figure 11.13.   Failure 
to follow this procedure will likely cause lighting and 
sooting problems.

•  Place Lava Rock on areas of base pan away from the 

burner as shown in Figure 11.14.  Do not place lava 
rock on burner.  Use this material to give the appliance 
a realistic ash bed.

•  Save the remaining ember materials for use during 

appliance servicing. The embers provided should be 
enough for 3 to 5 applications.
