6 CONNECTING DSE VIA TCP/IP
This section describes how to make a connection to the DSE, and the factors to consider
when doing so. In the first subsection we explain how to connect to a PC. Further on you
will find examples for connecting by PROFINET and EtherCAT.
Information
After switching on, the start parameter set is first loaded and activated (initialization). The
DSE takes about 2 seconds to start outputting measured values via the fieldbus. About
3 seconds after switching on, values are also start being sent to the web server.
6.1 Establishing a network connection to a PC
Cabling
To set up the DSE via the web interface (section 7, Web interface, page 40), you must
establish a connection between the DSE and your computer. You have two options for
this:
1. Make a direct 1:1 connection.
Connect the DSE by an Ethernet cable at connection X2 or X4 to the Ethernet port on
your PC.
2. Connect over a network.
Connect your PC to the network or a switch, and connect the DSE in turn to the
network or switch - in each case using an Ethernet cable.
TCP/IP communication runs in parallel with transmission of the Industrial Ethernet
standard in the same cable. This is done without losing real-time functionality.
Important
The DSE allows only one Ethernet connection; any more attempted connections are
rejected.
The transfer of commands and data is unencrypted and not secure (no SSL), so you
should only operate the DSE in an internal network with no connection to the Internet or
– if an Internet connection is essential – use a VPN tunnel for it.
Configuring the IP address
Once the DSE has been electrically connected to your PC, you can configure the IP
address. The DSE does not have an IP address when shipped; so you need to assign the
IP address yourself, one time only.
To do so, you can use a DCP configuration program suitable for configuring IP addresses
or PROFINET devices.
