Chapter 2: Spectrum system installation
• To eliminate any possibility of tipping over, ensure that the equipment rack is securely fastened to the
floor or wall.
• Because of their weight, the MediaCenter, the MediaStore, and the (optional) automation system
should be installed at the bottom of the equipment rack.
• The SystemManager Keyboard/Monitor Tray is placed 71.12 cm (28.0 in.) off the floor. This tabletop
height is ideal for using the SystemManager while seated or standing.
Spectrum racking requirements
Review the racking requirements before rack mounting your Spectrum system.
For MediaDirectors and MediaCenters
For rack mounting, you will need 8.9 cm (3.5 in.) of vertical rack space (2 RU).
For the MediaStore 5000 series
The MediaStore 5000 series is designed for installation into an industry standard 19-inch cabinet capable
of holding the unit—up to 50 kg (81 lb).
For rack mounting a MediaStore 5000 series you will need:
• 8.9 cm (3.5 in.) of vertical rack space (2 RU), plus a minimum 79.66 cm (31.36 in.) rack depth to allow
for cabling and connectors.
• A minimum gap of 25 mm (1 inch) clearance between the rack cover and the front of the drawer.
• 50 mm (2 inches) rear clearance between the rear of the drawer and rear of rack in order to maintain
the correct airflow around the enclosure.
• A rack that presents a maximum back pressure of 5 pascals (0.5 mm water gauge).
Note the following safety requirements when the unit is mounted in a rack:
• The rack design should incorporate stabilizing features suitable to prevent the rack from tipping during
installation and in normal use.
• When loading a rack with the MediaStores, fill the rack from the bottom up and empty from the top
down.
• The rack should comply with the airflow requirements detailed in the technical specification. The rack
design should take into consideration the maximum operating ambient temperature for the unit, which
is 40°C.
• The rack should have a safe electrical distribution system that provides a reliable earth for each unit
and the rack. It must provide over-current protection for the unit and must not be overloaded by the
total number of units installed.
• Depending on MediaStore model, each power supply in each unit has an earth leakage current of
1.7mA to 1.8mA. The design of the electrical distribution system must take into consideration the total
earth leakage current from all the power supplies in all the units. The rack will require the following
label:
• The rack when configured with the units must meet the safety requirements of UL 1950, UL 60950-1,
IEC 60950 and/or IEC 60950-1, depending on MediaStore model.
