MediaCenter system overview
Review the MediaCenter system overview to help plan your system before installing.
The most basic MediaCenter system installation consists of the following components:
• One SystemManager Platform or the SystemManager application installed on a customer-supplied
PC.
• One MediaCenter with drives.
• One long Rack Mounting Kit, shipped with each MediaCenter (a short rail kit may be ordered
separately).
• Three Spectrum Xs in a shared storage configuration or three MediaPort 7000 series with I/O modules
installed, rack trays, Cat-6 Ethernet cables, and rack mounting kits (mounting kits for MediaPort
chassis must be ordered separately).
• Latest version of the Spectrum system software and the SystemManager software.
• DHCP server or a system with DHCP enabled.
• (Optional) one controlling application (for example, program automation system).
• (Optional) Monitor/keyboard.
NOTE:
For additional storage, you can connect a MediaStore 7200 to the MediaCenter
using SAS connections.
The following figure illustrates a Spectrum system layout with one MediaCenter, three Spectrum Xs or
MediaPort 7000 series and ChannelPorts, a SystemManager Platform or client PC with SystemManager
installed, and an optional automation system.
