Connecting MediaDirectors in an EFS configuration
If you have purchased an extended file system (EFS) license from Harmonic, you can connect
MediaDirectors in an EFS configuration.
For the MediaDirector 2252B and 2251B units, you can configure up to three servers in an EFS
configuration using the EFS ports.
NOTE:
With Spectrum 8.2 and later, when configuring two or three MediaDirectors in an
EFS, you can mix MediaDirector 2252B and 2251B units in the same EFS.
For the MediaDirector 2252B-DS, you can configure four servers in an extended file system (EFS)
configuration using the EFS Ethernet ports.
Connecting 2 MediaDirector 2252B or 2251B series units in an EFS
configuration
If you are configuring two MediaDirector units in an extended file system (EFS) configuration, connect the
MediaDirector units using the EFS Ethernet ports.
Please note the following about cabling the MediaDirectors with EFS Ethernet:
• EFS is a feature that requires a license. Consult with your Harmonic Sales Representative for more
information.
• When setting up an EFS Ethernet, you must connect your Ethernet cable between corresponding EFS
Ethernet ports on the MediaDirectors. Do not use any other Ethernet ports for this purpose.
• Refer to the
Harmonic SystemManager User Guide
for instructions on configuring a Spectrum system
with EFS.
• With Spectrum 8.2 and later, you can mix MediaDirector 2252B and 2251B series units in the same
EFS.
CAUTION:
Make sure each MediaDirector is running the same version of Spectrum
software and each has an EFS license installed BEFORE connecting the EFS Ethernet or
shared storage cables
