TROUBLE SHOOTING - Problems and Solutions

Problem

Check and Remedy

1.  Nothing appears on the

screen.

Nearly all problems with this antenna are related to the use of old push

in plugs. Try bypassing the old push in plugs and use the supplied HW019

digital Thru Van Wall Connector by running the cables through a door or

window. If this fixes the problem its time to update your push in plugs

permanently. If you still want to use push in plugs with this antenna you

will need to purchase an adaptor from Happy Wanderer.

2. TV picture black

and white. (Analogue TV)

Poor quality sound.

Test if your push in plugs are at fault as per item 1.

Check as to whether the TV signal is vertical or horizontal.

Rotate the antenna if the signal is horizontal mode to see if there is

improvement.

Repeat in vertical mode.

3. Pixelation /

4. No lights on signal finder but

still good TV picture signal

picture breaking up.
(Digital TV)

Test if vertical or horizontal signal required.

DT8 receives signal on good quailty TVs with strength less than 1st light

on signal finder. Set up antenna & tune TV set even if there are no lights.

Distortion of the picture could indicate a weak signal and boosting

may be necessary. See Back Page

Signal may be too strong using the gain booster or if using the

    easy-tune follow the instructions.

If receiving UHF & not VHF, Set arms on antenna.

A bracket and mast to Caravan

is not supplied

This is to be purchased as a separate item.

Our standard range of brackets and mast are designed to work with this model antenna.

Our 20mm white plastic mast fits into swing head adaptor. A 22mm round timber can

be used to reinforce your mast. If required, contact your local hardware store. If not

using a HAPPY WANDERER bracket you will need to adapt a short length of plastic

mast onto your mast.

The DT8 “dual loop” design gives consistent high gain as well as good front to back ratio, which

means a superior performance over a long distance in country locations. It has forgiving aiming

characteristics with 70 degrees of beamwidth which allows the DT8 to receive signals without pointing

directly towards the transmission tower.

Thread long coaxial cable through reflector

hole in loop element base and connect

cable to connector on back of loop element.

Use screwdriver to secure reflector, base

and loop together with 3   ” bolt.

horizontal mode. The swing head makes this

adjustment easy. Point arrow on top of swing

head toward the front of the antenna. Swing

head has been increased in length to cover

both saw teeth. If you are having any problems

with installation please call Happy Wanderer on

(08) 8376 2411.

See photos on front cover for

exact set up of horizontal and vertical.

Before beginning assembly, make sure

all pieces needed are present. A Phillips

head screwdriver is the only tool required.

TUNING

To maximise reception signal we recommend the use of the TV Signal Finder - see back page for details.
You need to re-tuning your caravan TV set to suit each location reception. This is normal for a TV

set on the move as opposed to a set permanently in one location.
An optional booster is available but we feel that boosting will rarely be needed as the antenna has

long range capabilities so it suits most Australian locations.

CAUTION:

DO NOT pull on coax cable where it enters the DT8.

DO NOT bend coax cable sharply particularly near loop element entry point as

this may cause the centre core wire to fracture.

For further assistance in finding TV stations and frequencies see back page for information on

our publication

The Caravanner’s Guide to Australian Television Stations

and TV signal finders

WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS

When drilling holes in your Caravan or RV ensure you are aware of where electrical cables are

located. If any doubt contact manufacturer.

When fitting antenna brackets to your Caravan or RV ensure safe practices are used at all times.

Use ladders or steps when unable to fit standing on the ground.

For safety sake do not set antenna up near electric wires or neon lights. Also where subject to

extreme heat.

Be aware that antenna and masts may become an obstacle to people or cars. Position antenna

securely on mast and mast on bracket. Regularly check condition of bracket and mast.

Avoid use of antenna in severe weather conditions such as thunderstorms or very high wind.

Avoid use of antenna in areas subject to shock or vibration or other unstable areas.

DT8 Instructions

a superior performance over a long distance in country locations. It has forgiving aiming characteris-
tics with 70 degrees of beam width which allows the DT8 to receive signals without pointing directly
towards the transmission tower.

Before beginning assembly, make sure all pieces needed are present. A Phillips head
screwdriver is the only tool required.

1.  Loop Element
2.  Loop Element Base
3.  Reflector
4.  Swing Head
5.  3

½

” inch bolt

6.   4m coaxial cable
7.  2m inside van to TV cable
8.  HW019 Thru-van-wall

(If you still want to use your push in style plug and not
use the HW019 with this product you will need
to purchase an adaptor from us.)

Assemble Antenna using a screwdriver to secure reflector, base & loop together with
3½” bolt making sure both holes are nearest to the VHF arms. Thread long 4m cable through
reflector & base to element using hole marked

TO TV

.

Thread short cable from arms through reflector & base
to element using hole marked

VHF IN

.

Place swing head in clamps with the arrow pointing
towards element and the PVC Pole Female pointing down.

When setting the swinging VHF arms on the back of
the DT8, be sure to lift over clip

(Arrow)

 to avoid breaking

and reverse the procedure when taking down.
Most TV reception in Australia is UHF and arms need not
be set as shown in the photos on the cover and can be
left down. Try TV tuning without setting arms first.

See photos on front cover for exact set up of horizontal and vertical signals.

A bracket and mast to Caravan is not supplied

This is to be purchased as a separate item. Our standard range of brackets and mast are designed
to work with this model antenna. Our 20mm white plastic mast fits into swing head adaptor. A

store. If not using a HAPPY WANDERER bracket you will need to adapt a short length of plastic
mast onto your mast.

TUNING

To maximise reception signal we recommend the use of the TV Signal Finder - or Combined Signal
Finder Amplifier Booster. You need to re-tuning your caravan TV set to suit each location reception.
This is normal for a TV set on the move as opposed to a set permanently in one location.
We feel that boosting will rarely be needed as the antenna has long range capabilities so it suits
most Australian locations. TV Sets have a varying degrees of tuning strength. LCD TV’s tune at a
lower signal frequency. If your TV is an LED TV then higher strength signal may be required.
(See Boosters on back page). It may be your TV & not the antenna.
