Important instructions regarding the power supply
Connecting an external power supply unit allows you to
provide connected FireWire devices with power. This
means that devices without their own power supply can be
operated using the ExpressCard.
Note:
Use only switching power supply units with the following
specifi cations (we recommend Hama item no. 46611):
• Voltage DC 12 V, capacity depends on the connected
device
• Polarity: outer negative (-) and inner positive (+)
Caution:
Failure to observe this warning may cause damage
to the notebook/laptop, ExpressCard, or the connected device.
Hama GmbH & Co KG accepts no liability for damage that
arises from a failure to observe these instructions.
Software installation
To install the card on Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit)
with Service Pack 1
Because Windows Vista already includes the necessary
drivers, you do not need to install any drivers separately.
After you have inserted the FireWire ExpressCard into your
computer and started Vista, the computer detects and
installs the card automatically after a short time.
You can check whether the FireWire ExpressCard was
installed properly under
Start (Windows logo)-> Control
Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Device Manager
.
Under some circumstances, User Access Control may ask
you to approve this action. Click
-> Continue
. The following
entry must appear without a yellow exclamation mark.
IEEE 1394 bus host controllers
• VIA OHCI-compliant IEEE 1394 host controller
Note:
We highly recommend that Windows Vista users
install at least Service Pack 1 due to enhancements and
improved functionality.

separately. After you have inserted the ExpressCard into
your computer and started Windows XP, the computer de-
tects and installs the card automatically after a short time.
