Adapting digital sound output to a digital multi-
channel amplifier/decoder
With this you choose whether the decoder signals are processed in the DVD
player or fed unchanged to the digital output. With internal decoding, there is a
stereo signal (PCM) at the digital output.
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is a process of digitalising analogue data in
uncompressed form. The signals of an audio CD are in this format.

Selecting audio signal types for the digital output
Depending on the CD medium in use, various signals are present at the digital
audio output.
Linear PCM audio is the signal recording format used with music CDs.
Whereas the signals for music are recorded at 44.1 kHz/16 bits,
DVD signals are recorded at 48 kHz/16 bits to 96 kHz/24 bits. This means that
the sound quality of DVDs is better than that of music CDs.
