Diode Check
Do not connect the meter to a source of voltage or current when the
selector switch is in the
position. Damage to the meter can
result.
1. Shut off and lock out the power. Make sure all capacitors are fully
discharged. Voltage must not be present.
2. Plug the black test lead into the COM terminal. Plug the red test lead into
the V
Ω
terminal.
3. Set the selector switch to
.
4. Press
. The
icon will appear.
5. Connect the test leads to the diode. The expected display for a diode in
good condition is approximately as follows:
Germanium-Based Diode
Silicon-Based Diode
Forward-Biased
.025 volts - 0.45 volts
0.40 volts - 0.90 volts
Reverse-Biased
OL
OL
Note: A forward-biased reading of 000 (short circuit) or OL indicates that
the diode is faulty.
A reverse-biased reading of 000 (short circuit) or any numeric value
indicates that the diode is faulty.
