Application
The clamp-on current transformer allows for the interruption-free
measurement of alternating current by enclosing the electrical
conductor or bus bar.
The clamp-on current transformer is especially suited as acces-
sory for measurements with the clipping multimeter
METRALINE DM 61.
2
Safety Precautions
The clamp-on current transformer is a measuring instrument
accessory in accordance with IEC 61010–1 / DIN EN 61010–1 /
VDE 0411–1, and may only be used for its intended purpose.
In case of incorrect use or careless handling, the safety of both
user and clamp is not assured.
Even if the secondary circuit is interrupted, the clamp has a pro-
tection circuit which prevents high voltage to be generated.
Read these operating instructions as well as the one for the multi-
meter (chapter AC Current Measurement with (Clamp-on) Current
Transformer) completely and carefully before placing your instru-
ment into service, and follow all instructions contained therein.
Application around & removal from HAZARDOUS LIVE
conductor is permitted!
To avoid electric shock:
•
Use caution during installation and use of this product; high
voltages and currents may be present in circuit under test.
•
This product must be used by qualified personnel only
observing the applicable safety precautions.
•
Do not use product if damaged.
•
Do not hold the probe anywhere beyond the tactile barrier in
order to avoid dangerous contact with the conductor.
Opening of Equipment / Repair
The equipment may be opened only by authorized service per-
sonnel to ensure the safe and correct operation of the equipment
and to keep the warranty valid.
Even original spare parts may be installed only by authorized ser-
vice personnel.
In case the equipment was opened by unauthorized personnel,
no warranty regarding personal safety, measurement accuracy,
conformity with applicable safety measures or any consequential
damage is granted by the manufacturer.
If a guarantee seal is included and it has been damaged or
removed, all guarantee claims are rendered null and void.
3
Measurement
The setup of the measuring circuit and the description of the
measurement are included in the respective operating instructions
of the above-mentioned multimeter.
Observe the safety precautions listed above, as well as the speci-
fied allowable output load range for the respective clam-on trans-
former.
Make sure that the secondary circuit is connected to the measur-
ing circuit at the multimeter first.
Be sure to remove the clamp from the primary conductor before
the connections at the multimeter are disengaged.

Maintenance
The clamp-on current transformer requires no maintenance.
The probe may not be immersed into any liquids during cleaning,
and no solvents may be used. The surfaces between the jaws
should be cleaned with a lightly oiled cloth on a regular basis.
Remove contamination and dust from the plastic components
and connector cables with a cloth which has been dampened
with soapy water. Measure the resistance at the secondary circuit
with an ohmmeter on a regular basis. If loose contacts become
apparent, remove the clamp-on current transformer from service.
