MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
3. Lightly lubricate the seal stationary seat O‐ring,
place a clean tissue over the sealing face of the
stationary seat, and press the stationary seat
and O‐ring into the oil housing cover (289).
Make sure
the slot in the stationary ring
meshes with the lug that prevents rotation.
4. Install the seal clamp (261) in the step in the seal
housing, and secure with the locking ring (264).
5. Lubricate the O‐ring in the I.D. of the rotating
portion of the seal. Press the rotating portion of
the seal onto the shaft by hand until the seal
faces contact.
6. Install the plastic gauge ring supplied with the
seal between the front end of the seal retainer
and the back side of the rotating seal element.
7. Use a suitably sized sleeve to press on the bot
tom end of the seal retainer until the until the
plastic gauge ring is compressed between the
front end of the retainer and the back side of the
rotating element. Secure the seal retainer to the
shaft by tightening the retainer setscrews. Re
move and discard the plastic gauge ring.
NOTE
See
Seal Testing
before installing the pump end
components.
Impeller Installation
1. Check the impeller (5) for broken vanes,
cracks, or excessive wear. Replace as neces
sary.
2. Oil the end of the motor shaft and the keyway.
Install the impeller key (6) in the shaft keyway.
Position the impeller (5) on the shaft, and en
gage the key in the impeller keyway. Use a soft‐
faced mallet to tap the impeller onto the shaft
until fully seated.
NOTE
The volute casing (11) must be installed and se
cured to the seal housing in order to tighten the im
peller screw (10). With the volute casing installed,
insert a wood block or metal bar through the dis
charge opening to block impeller rotation. After in
stalling and tightening the impeller screw as de
scribed below, remove the wood block or bar, and
proceed with pump reassembly.
The threads of the impeller screw (10) and
its mating surfaces
must
be lubricated to
reduce friction and prevent corrosion.
3. Install the cap (7) and O‐ring (76). Lubricate the
threads of the screw (10) and its mating sur
faces with SAE 10W 30 oil; install the screw, and
torque to 123 ft. lbs. (1476 in. lbs. or 17 m. kg.)
Volute Casing and Suction Cover Installation
NOTE
Impeller clearance should always be adjusted
when the volute casing or impeller have been re
moved from the pump.
1. Install a new seal housing O‐ring (101) in the
groove in the seal housing, and lubricate it with
oil or light grease.
2. Use a lifting device to lower the motor assembly
into the volute casing (11). If necessary, tap
around the flange for the screws (13) until the
motor is fully seated in the casing. Install but do
not fully tighten the screws (13).
3. Lay the pump on its side. If removed, install the
O‐ring (152) in the groove in the suction cover
(16) and lubricate it with oil or light grease.
Press the flange over the suction cover until fully
seated and secure with the hardware (28).
4. Install the O‐ring (100) in the groove in the suc
tion cover and lubricate it with oil or light grease.
Install the suction cover (16) in the volute cas
ing, and secure it with the capscrews (151).
