Ice Floe game of skill
An Arctic landscape forms the backdrop to the Ice Floe game. You can see a lot of ice floes floating on the
Arctic sea. The ice is home to the Inuit, polar bears, seals and many fish.
The people who live here have thought up a game that they can play on long winter days. And now you
can also play it at home in your cosy children’s room.
The Ice Floe game is a game of skill for 1 or 2 players.
The game stimulates fine motor skills and strategic thinking. When two of you are playing it is an excellent
cooperative game because the task can only be solved together and not alone.
Contents
1 game board with stand function
6 marbles, different sizes
Aim of the game
By skilfully moving the two pull rods the marble is transported over the ice floes into the igloo at the top of
the game board.
Preparation
The board is positioned upright on the table and a marble is placed on the lower ledge for the route across
the ice floes.
The smaller the marble, the more difficult the route along the icy water-holes.
The rules
By moving the ice floes you can change the route to the igloo and make the crossings from floe to floe
easier or more difficult.
The crossings are important for the transportation of your marble from the start to the finishing hole.
If the marble gets between the floes it will fall down to the bottom and you can try again to bring the marble
to the finish. But be careful not to let it fall back into the gap between the ice floes.
The ice floes can also be pulled out at the side and put back in a different arrangement.
How long did it take you to get your marble successfully into the finishing hole. Write your time down and
try to be faster next time. Maybe you can do it if you arrange the ice floes differently right at the beginning.
How long do you need for the small marble, the medium-sized one and the large one? Can you manage to
transport two or even three marbles at the same time?
Variation
The game can also be played by two people. Then it’s even more fun! Together you move the ice floe
strips to create as passable a route as possible for the marble. Each player takes a pull rod and then you
have to agree on what you want to do.
When played by two people, the game is a great challenge for your coordination and communication skills.
And now we hope you have lots of fun getting across the ice floes, just like Inuit children!
